See the below email that was sent to supporters last night.
Hi Everyone -- As you can imagine, it was a very busy day yesterday, as it is today. I have finally found some time this afternoon to say thank you to each and everyone of you for your support. Without it, we would not have been successful. Again, many thanks! Wow, what an election and how about the voter turnout? Last night, I found out that I won the election via a phone call at 11:00 p.m. from a reporter from the Germantownnow.com website. The reporter then interviewed me for a story that was published on their website last night and interesting to note, the headline for the article was......'Soderberg upsets Jex in school race'......'He credits grassroots effort in getting elected to School Board in Germantown.' Again, without your support and our 'grassroots' efforts, we would not have won. And, how about them numbers?
Not bad, and I guess we even won each and every ward within the district. This morning, I received a nice email from Dr. Borden and we are discussing the official start date, which per State statute, has to be by the fourth Monday in April (or sooner). So stay tuned! I am excited about representing you and the rest of the Germantown School district. I look forward to working with the Administration, my fellow board members, our great teachers and of course our dedicated parents. We have major challenges ahead of us, but by working together, we will close the estimated $2.1m budget deficit and we will not impact the great education we provide to our 4,000 students. One of the first things that I am going to do, as I had pledged to each of you, is to not accept the $4,000 board salary. I am confident that the District will welcome this and will use that money in reducing the overall budget deficit. I also pledge to address each and every item that was identified in the 'Bob's Plan' section that was on my website. Going forward, if you have any thoughts, concerns, or ideas on how we can reduce the deficit, please send me a note. Also, as I am not running for the school board anymore, I will be changing my website to reflect that. The change will occur on the date that I am sworn in, which should be relatively soon. Finally, I want to thank Erin Jex for her service to the school board, as well as to the students, teachers, parents and taxpayers of the Germantown School District. Again, many thanks for your support! Warm Regards, Bob

He credits grassroots effort in getting elected to School Board in Germantown

Germantown — Bob Soderberg is the new kid on the block, or at least on the Germantown School Board, after he beat incumbent Erin Jex. In fact, Soderberg is so new it wasn't until a NOW reporter called that he even knew he had won.
Having put together a formidable grassroots movement, Soderberg emerged with a 500-vote victory in Tuesday's election.
The unofficial vote totals are as follows:
Bob Soderberg 2,789
Erin Jex 2,215
"I think it's referendum on the current administration and the board," Soderberg said Tuesday night upon hearing the results. "No one knew who I was, and we had a grassroots effort from a lot of people who knocked on doors."
The payoff for Soderberg is a spot on the School Board, where he will inherent a multi-million dollar deficit and a space problem in a district that also posted some of the best state test scores in the area. Soderberg said maintaining the quality education amid one of the toughest budgets in recent memory will be his biggest task.
"We have to be very careful what we do so it doesn't impact the performance of our schools," he said. "It's going to be very tough, and we may have to take a step back to take two steps forward."
The controversial budget proposed by Gov. Scott Walker has Germantown scrambling to fill gaps, and Soderberg believes that fact had a big impact on this election.
"Look what happened in Milwaukee County: It went truly partisan," Soderberg said, referring to the race for county executive - a race that isn't technically partisan but had a decidedly partisan feel. "Here in Germantown we're more conservative in nature so maybe that had something to do with it."
Jex, the incumbent, lost every ward that led to the somewhat surprising margin. Those wide margins may have had to do with the large number of voters turning out all over the state to vote for the highly contentious state Supreme Court race. Soderberg's suspicion over Germantown's conservative disposition came through in that election, as voters picked Prosser more than 3 to 1.
About 43 percent of voters turned out for the election, which was not nearly as high as in other communities in the area, with some reporting rates well over 50 percent.
Lester Spies, the other incumbent on the School Board, ran unopposed.
